Biography

Märta-Lisa Magnusson has a Ph.D. in Slavic languages ​​(University of Gothenburg, 1986) and has been a senior lecturer at the Department of East-West Research, Sydjysk University Center, Esbjerg (1987-2000), senior lecturer and external lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen (2002-2010) and senior lecturer at IMER and Caucasus studies, Malmö University (2006-2017). She has published several books, edited and wrote articles in a number of anthologies, wrote a large number of magazine articles and taught about Russian literature, Soviet cultural and nationality policy, center-periphery relations in post-Soviet Russia and, after 1991, in rising degree focused on developments in the post-Soviet Caucasus. In 1992-2000, she contributed articles on Russia and the Caucasus to the Great Danish Encyclopedia and has also contributed to the Swedish National Encyclopedia. She has written a large number of articles in the Danish daily press and was 1981-94 reviewer of Russian literature at the daily newspaper Politiken. In 1993-99 she was editor-in-chief of the quarterly journal Vindue mod Øst, Center for Öst-Vest Forskning, Sydjysk Universitetscenter. 1988-92 member of the board of the Danish Center for Human Rights, 1997-2010 board member and 2003-2006 chairman of the Danish Society for Caucasus Research. Magnusson is one of the organizers behind the establishment of the university subject Caucasus studies at Malmö University.

Fieldwork: Western Siberia, Armenia and Georgia. A large number of study trips to, among others, the North Caucasus with Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan; Volga region with Tatarsan, Bashkortostan and Udmurtia; Transnistria (Moldova) and the Russian Far East with Birobidzhan, Buryatia, Tuva, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok.
